Miquella, also known as “Miquella, the Kind,” “Miquella of the Haligtree”, among other aliases and possibly alternate identities (iykyk) is a pseudo-Messianic figure in the universe of Miyazaki’s Elden Ring. During a pivotal point in the narrative, (but already well before the player arrives on the scene) and at the height of his powers, Miquella goes missing. Foul play is expected. In the same way, in 196x, at the height of his influence as founder of the Black Panther Self-Defense Party (and certainly, adding to his notereity), Huey Newton was arrested after a traffic stop turned into a shoot-out, leading to the death of one of the officers. This lead to national and international outrage, the Panthers organizing protests and the slogan of, "Free Huey", could be found ringing as far afield as Maoist China and Palestine. His arrest was seen at the time as a zeitgeist moment for the African-American public, and there was growing fear that, were Huey to be released, he would free the modern Black from the chains of American tyranny and lead the Revolution that would ultimately result in the Socialist reimagining of our Union. Of course, this did not happen. Huey, upon release, resumed his duties with the Black Panthers, but did not lead the pseudo-Messianic revolution the people expected. During his time in prison, targeted federal operations (COINTEL PRO) lead to severe in-fighting between Black Panthers, and the death of many of its leaders. When he was released in 1970, times were different. He did not take up the banner of Messiah. A relevant quote from former Black Panther Hugh Pearson can be found below. I believe it explains the Spirit of the time better than I can as an external, non-contemporaneous Observer: <blockquote> "Yeah they freed Huey. Then Huey came out and they wanted Huey to free them and I keep trying to tell the people, I say people, that's the true power of the people, you freed me, you freed Huey, now why don't you all go ahead and free yourself? And that's when they assassinate you and then put your image on a postage stamp so they can keep lickin' you in the grave." The common cultural perception of Malcolm X as the "violent" Civil Rights leader and Martin Luther King Jr. as the "peaceful" one is a myth that has been perpetuated for far too long. This oversimplified narrative is something many Americans [[were taught during their school years->https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1992/11/18/teaching-malcolm-x-pbfbor-most-students/#:~:text=King%20quickly%20realized%20that%20the,view%2Dpoint%20of%20that%20organization]], and it has been reinforced even in Black communities through targeted educational goals in this way. In reality, the views of both leaders existed on a spectrum. While Malcolm X did advocate for the right of Black people to use violence in self-defense against racial aggression from White people, he did not call for an immediate violent revolution or vigilante justice. In fact, he praised the Nation of Islam for its avoidance of violent crime (at least to the best of his knowledge). Most of his rhetoric emphasized that the restraint shown by Black people in America, despite the violence and oppression they faced, is the only reason there hasn’t been more violence. In other words, Malcolm X's perspective on violence was more prophetic than prescriptive.
